The Price Of Progress

hi Jim
I spent a lot of time thinking about who Dean’s favourite YouTuber would be. Someone full of the sunny optimism he lacks, who spends a lot of time cleaning up decrepit soldering. A bright young thing! Fortunately the algorithm had already shown me the answer. I am sure someone will work out who she is in the comments.

I promise part 2 is coming soon. It’s been much harder to write than part 1. I also had an exhausting week while my wife was out of town for a work thing.
I haven’t been alone like that in a very long time and was working through some tough loneliness emotions, which took a physical toll on me as well (but that’s longcovid/mecfs for you).
Still working on organizing and cleaning up the house too as well as just keeping on top of chores.
I have a Brain MRI coming up tomorrow because my migraines have changed, which is always really really scary so my doctor ordered this out of an abundance of caution. That said, I haven’t noticed the new kind of migraine ever since I moved to injections for my HRT. Granted, I’ve only done two shots so far, but I think it’s helping tons. My patches were causing skin irritation which I think was preventing absorption of the estradiol. Also I kept screwing up my patch cycle too, which doesn’t help either! Injections, as far as scheduling anyway, have been easier. My wife and I are doing them together to keep us both accountable and so far it’s working (and just between you and me, I’m already seeing some boob growth :O 😙). My most recent attempt sent me into shock though, which was difficult, but once I recovered I was able to get it done. I think part of why might be because my wife was not in the room with me, she was on a video call from California. I almost didn’t push through, I almost put it off to try again the day after. But I gotta say, pushing through and getting it done that night, especially after I had gone into shock, was actually worth it??? I felt so strong and powerful afterwards, like I had accomplished something huge and grown as a person. We’ll see how much of a baby I am this week though =P
Anyway, thanks for being patient and listening.

February 9th, 2026: I have to admit: I'm with T-Rex on this one! Also: pets count as friends, and so do the pets of your friends. :0 – Ryan | ||
That last panel wasn’t in my original rough, it arrived out of nowhere at the last minute. And I was very glad that it did. I hope you like my era-appropriate Katamari Queen Cher.

when asked to explain the whole of Capital while standing on one foot, Marx replied "the rate of profit tends to fall. the rest is commentary; go and study"
The TL;DR for this one is that a physical difference (big streetsmart warrior woman/small booksmart mage) forms our starting premise for an opposites attract dynamic to blossom in some cozy adventuring fantasy. Why it’s good is entirely in the execution, and its runaway popularity for an indie is a good thing to point to whenever anyone says femdom books are not marketable. It deserves the love it…
On my Patreon, I did a free Q&A post that included a PDF that shows where you can read (or can’t) everything I’ve published on my various websites or with book publishers, excepting anthology appearances. I feel like this could be of interest to people who’ve arrived later at my work, or people who’ve forgotten things. I put myself in the latter category. If this is of interest, take a look!

The irony of it all. The irony of someone saying it’d all be easier if we resented each other, who then works very hard to make that resentment happen, and then gets upset when we resent each other. Who gets upset that because of this resentment we have to employ anti-abuse tactics to get through repeated attempts to push us away and then pull us back in, to get through being continually yelled at even though everything’s over. The irony of someone getting exactly what they said they wanted, and then being upset about the consequences of what they wanted. And you have to admit, at the end of the day, as one of the targets of all of this abuse, you kinda have to laugh to wrestle back control of your emotions from someone else, laugh in an attempt to shrug off the deep anxiety and pain that this person always causes, just so you can go about the rest of your day and not let this person keep harming and controlling you. It’s not a derisive laugh. It’s an “ay yi yi” kind of laugh. The laugh of someone who is going through repeated and sustained trauma and is determined to not let her abuser win. Does that make me “vile”? That’s not my call. I imagine that if one is just trying to continue the abuse and prevent me from speaking out, then yes, that does make me vile from one’s point of view.
Respiratory virus trends are sending mixed signals this week, according to Biobot’s national wastewater data. COVID-19 levels are rising across the country. Influenza A is decreasing, while Influenza B is picking up. RSV appears to be leveling off. Regionally, COVID-19 activity is climbing highest in the Midwest and South, but changes in other viruses vary by location.
The Bottom Line: The respiratory viruses season is still going. Keep an eye on your local trends—and continue layering protections, especially if you’re at higher risk.

Footnotes:
We continue to monitor the evolving H5N1 influenza virus situation, and can now test samples specifically for H5 (including H5N1) — see our blog here and please reach out to hello@biobot.io if interested. A quick reminder that Biobot’s influenza A assay described in this report includes the H5N1 influenza subtype, which is an influenza A virus, but does not distinguish between the different subtypes of influenza A (e.g. H5N1 vs H1N1). We will share any important updates as we have them. Wastewater data from Biobot Analytics for RSV, influenza, and SARS-CoV-2 are through January 31, 2026 (MMWR week 4).

ZambianOS is a very seductive interface, isn’t it? I have to iterate it once a year with new features, it gets quite tiring.
